Janna R. Williams is a native of Helena, Montana. Janna was a member of the Helena High School Starlighters and Ambiance groups, as well as the Women’s Quartet. She began her vocal studies with Dr. Steve Michelson and will be completing her Masters in Vocal Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studies with Barbara Paver.
She previously studied voice with Professor Ruth Dobson at Portland State University. Janna received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree from The University of Montana-Missoula under Esther England.
Janna has appeared as Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites, Mercedes in Carmen, Elvira in Italian Girl in Algiers, the Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen, the Snow Maiden in The Snow Maiden, Syphinia in Barab’s Only a Miracle, and Anninka in Krasa’s Brundibar.
Janna has performed as a Ball Guest Soloist in PSU’s production of Strauss’ Die Fledermaus while acting as Assistant Director to Maestro Tito Capobianco. Coastally, Janna has performed the role of First Lady in the Astoria Academy of Music’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute as well as Giulietta in Bellini’s I Capuleti e Montecchi and Lisa in Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame.
In spring of 2005 Janna performed the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with the Portland State University Opera and Symphony Orchestra. This past December Janna performed the soprano solos for the Columbia Chorale of Oregon’s production of Handel’s Messiah and as the Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors produced by the Astoria Performing Arts. This past spring Janna performed the role of Mariane in Portland State University’s production of Mechems’s Tartuffe.
Competitively Janna was awarded the Young Artist Incentive Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council in Spokane Washington and also was the first musician to receive the Ruth Dobson Award for Excellence in Opera.
Janna recently participated in the Rising Star Singers Advanced Audition track under Barbara Honn and Tom Baresel. Janna performed in Rock Island, Illinois, on the Neiswanger Recital Series and will appear as the soprano soloist in the Columbia Chorale of Oregon’s production of Brahm’s Requiem this coming June.
